Birth Parent Informal Support Network Preparation Program

Equips family, friends, clergy, healthcare, educators, and employers to provide compassionate, informed, nonjudgmental support to birth parents.

The Birth Parent Informal Support Network Preparation Program equips family members, friends, clergy, healthcare professionals, educators, employers, and other natural supports with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide compassionate, informed, and nonjudgmental support to birth parents. Through educational modules, discussion guides, informational videos, tip sheets, and conversation tools, support persons learn about adoption-related grief, trauma responses, identity challenges, continuing bonds, and the harmful effects of minimizing or dismissing loss.

The curriculum emphasizes validation, active listening, emotional safety, cultural humility, and practical support strategies while helping support people recognize signs of distress and when referrals to professional services may be needed. The goal is to create a broader healing community around birth parents by extending adoption competency beyond professional service providers into the individual's everyday support network.
