Birth Parent Self-Assessment, Normalization, and Exploration Framework

A trauma- and adoption-informed engagement process that helps birth parents understand, validate, and contextualize their post-adoption journey.

The Birth Parent Self-Assessment, Normalization, and Exploration Framework is a structured, trauma- and adoption-informed engagement process designed to help birth parents understand, validate, and contextualize their post-adoption experiences and journey. The framework includes digital screening tools, guided reflection exercises, grief and identity assessments, wellness inventories, journaling activities, and psychoeducational modules that normalize common experiences such as ambiguous loss, disenfranchised grief, identity disruption, contact uncertainty, and lifelong attachment to a child placed for adoption.

Participants complete self-assessments at intake and throughout their journey, receiving personalized feedback that identifies strengths, needs, coping patterns, support gaps, and growth opportunities. The process serves both a clinical and engagement function by reducing shame, increasing self-awareness, helping participants recognize that their experiences are common and understandable, and creating a foundation for individualized service planning and support.
